GDT 2026 Day 6 Field to Little Yoho

The morning started off great with a flat white and a breakfast sandwich from the cafe. Fully fueled, it was time to tackle my biggest climb yet of 1000m. It was overcast but the air quality was also noticeably poor, poorer than I had expected based on the information I had looked up.

I finally made it to the top of the climb after a few hours. The trail comes out at the Burgess shale, but traverses the shale below where the fossils are. There were signs prohibiting people to go up to them.

The other side of the trail looked down over Emerald lake as well as a glacier and it’s waterfall on Michael peak.

The trail eventually descended to Yoho lake, where I caught up with one of the hikers I’d met from McArthur. I had lunch by the lake and then started down the Iceline trail. The air quality was even worse this afternoon, but you could still see how breathtaking the views are.  Takakkawa falls across the valley was impressive, as well as the many glaciers that I passed.

The trail still climbed a fair bit over rocky terrain before finally descending into Little Yoho campsite. The air quality seems somewhat better this evening but it did sprinkle a bit despite the forecast saying sun.
