GDT day 14

It was a very cold and windy night. Luke showed up after I had gotten into my tent and I couldn’t bring myself to get out of my sleeping bag to see how his day had gone. I even kept my rain pants on in my sleeping bag for a bit, which really helped. It was raining lightly in the morning but was still very windy and cold. I’m not sure it ever got above 10 degrees today. Thankfully it didn’t rain all day and I managed to dry out a bit.

The trail climbed through the forest to start with so at least that warmed me up.

It eventually came out into a bit of opening and I could see back to Beehive with its head in the clouds. And there were some new mountains, also with their heads in the clouds.

Then it was back into the forest. I stopped off at a bridge and aired my tent, which was very wet when I packed up.

I managed to get it mostly dry since it wasn’t sunny and it was mostly sheltered from the wind.

It was another climb up to another ridge. I managed to get turned around detouring around a blowdown, but eventually made my way back to the trail. I’m thankful for GPS since it did help me orient myself back. The ridge was extremely windy, but lovely none the less with views to the peaks along the Divide.

Then it was all downhill to my campsite at Cataract Creek. A comment in Farout mentioned that there was a nicer campsite a bit beyond the creek with views so I went there after collecting water. It is lovely and only a bit breezy (good for drying everything) compared to down by the creek. A hiker passed me by as I set up my tent, aiming for the next campsite, and doing 38 km compared to my 25.
