SIA Day 28: Refuge le Zephyr to Refuge l’Erabliere (22km, +1139m, -934m)

We were all up at about the same time and we headed off together along the shore.  We didn’t see any whales, only one seal and a few gannets.

More shorline hiking

The trail leaves the shoreline at Anse à Valleau, where we headed up a hill to Camping des Ancêtres, where the guys had a food box waiting and I was hoping to purchase bug spray.

They were out, but the woman went and got hers from her car and I ended up buying it from her for $5.  After dowsing myself, it was back into the woods away from the coast along a real trail all the way to our lunch spot at the abri Carrière.  There’s a quarry nearby, hence the name and we could hear the activity.  There was also a construction crew at the abri, retro fitting the shelter with a patio door, the same crew that I had met at Les Caburons.  I was a bit alarmed that we would have to sit outside to eat since I’d thought that we’d be inside the abri and away from the bugs, but the bug spray seemed to be doing it’s job.  The rest of the day was up and down, but nothing as bad as the previous days.  We stopped at a river for a break before knocking out the final few kms to the Refuge l’Erablière.

I was exhausted despite it being an easier day, perhaps because I was hiking a bit more slowly than usual?  The guys were excited to dig into their food supplies, which included Jello puddings and juice boxes.  We had a game of dice before retiring for the night, my first, but I didn’t have beginner’s luck.
