Today was my one rest day of the trail, although I still did more walking than I wanted to…I started by making myself my egg and English muffin sandwiches and drinking real coffee, heaven. I called Mum and Dad and did a crossword and started to not feel that great. Slightly ironic that my first tummy trouble was in town. It wasn’t too bad, I just felt nauseous. I finally headed out around noon to do my chores; buying some food for the next part of the trail and getting a few things from the pharmacy. Even though I wasn’t feeling hungry, I decided to go to the local ‘cantine’ and get a lobster roll, known locally as a ‘guedille au homard’, since that was what I had planned to do before I started to feel nauseous and I really wanted to take advantage of being in town. I only got the lobster roll, no fries or anything else. It was a bit of a disappointment though, not much lobster and a lot of iceberg lettuce and tomato.

My feet were still dead tired and sore and on my long walk back to the Airbnb, so I decided that I didn’t want to head back into town again for dinner. I had seen a hotel that was just a few minutes walk from my Airbnb that had a restaurant so I dropped in and made a reservation. The hotel was a bit on the fancy side, so I asked it would be ok if I dressed casually and they said it would be fine, even when I said ‘REALLY casually’. I hadn’t brought any clothes apart from my hiking ones and pjs, so my options were quite limited. When I got back to the Airbnb, I called Gill, then also spoke with Karlene and watched some videos on Youtube (to get caught up on the hikers that I’m following on the PCT and CDT). I opted for my hiking leggings and my long-sleeved hiking top with my camp shoes (foam Birks) and headed over for dinner. Of course, everyone was quite nicely dressed, but at least my clothes were freshly clean…I ordered a seafood platter of Nordic shrimp, smoked mussels, smoked trout, trout gravlax and marinated turbot with a herby cream cheese spread and some fancy crackers. It was all delicious, I especially enjoyed the turbot. However, I managed to drip some oil from the mussels onto the front of by top, so then I wasn’t even clean any longer. I didn’t stay for dessert and went back to the aribnb to wash out my top again since I didn’t want to go back into the forest smelling like seafood.
